Job Title Arabic Medical Interpreter PRN – Intermountain Health Base Pay Range $21.00/hr – $31.00/hr Job Description Coordinates and delivers both oral interpretation and written translation services for individuals with limited English proficiency across all Intermountain Health facilities and virtual services. Essential Functions Interpret medical and general information with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness using consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes for patients, families, and staff. Interpret complex medical information, demonstrating expert knowledge of medical terminology and the healthcare system. Act as a cultural mediator, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and superior intercultural communication skills. Adhere to the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Healthcare Interpreters and demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA, Title VI, Title III, and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. Manage time productively, respond to requests promptly, and provide staff with estimated arrival times for assignments. Use computer, software, and electronic tools for research, data entry, and communication; maintain accurate records of all interpretation events. Translate written material into one of more languages, ensuring meaning, context, and localization are maintained; complete assignments timely and accurately. Benefits Eligible: No Shift Details: PRN / 0 Hours per week Location: Salt Lake Valley Hospitals Required Qualifications Successful completion of a pre‑hire skills assessment. Excellent oral and written command of both source and target language(s) at professional proficiency (Level 3 or equivalent). Perform consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation with a high degree of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi‑task. Interpersonal verbal and written communication skills to function as part of a team; flexibility and good judgment to work independently. Certificate of completion from a 40‑hour Professional Medical Interpreter course. Alternate Candidate Path For candidates who do not meet the 40‑hour course requirement, you may be considered if you meet one of the following: Hold an interpreting certification in a different field (e.g., court). Hold a college degree in translation or a working language. Have at least 2 years of experience as a professional interpreter. Preferred Qualifications Two years of experience working as an interpreter in healthcare settings. Bachelor’s Degree in Interpretation, Translation, Languages, or Communications. National Certification as a Healthcare or Medical Interpreter from CCHI or NBCMI; in Utah, State Certified Medical Language Interpreter License by DOPL. Completion of a college‑level medical terminology course. Knowledge of EPIC. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, documents, and monitors. Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication and rapid comprehension. Manual dexterity for manipulating equipment with precision and frequent computer use. Driving requirement: ability to operate a vehicle safely.
