Archeologist, Lake Mead National Recreation Area Major Duties include but are not limited to: Plans and conducts archeological research for planning documents, including general management plans, resources management plans, environmental impact statements, environmental assessments, archeological overviews and assessments, and archeological field investigations of all types, as required to meet the needs of the park. Is responsible for or makes significant contributions to the preparation of historic preservation documentation, compliance, and background materials for clearance, permits, licenses, etc., as required by Section 106 and Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), Archeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), NPS Management Policies, and cultural resources management guidelines for planning and construction projects that involve cultural resources for all park undertakings. Incorporates appropriate Geographic Information Systems technology into job to provide comprehensive and scientifically sound answers to inquiries from managers and others by using automatic methods of data collection, analysis, or illustration. Inputs data into digital form and uses computer applications for data analysis, manipulation, and presentation. Serves as an advisor to park management on cultural resources. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors cultural resources, identifies potential threats, and makes recommendations to management regarding status and mitigation of impacts (present and future). In cooperation with appropriate staff, researchers, and partners, the incumbent designs, implements, and oversees multi-phased archeological projects involving documentary, archival, and collections research; field investigations (both survey and excavation); laboratory analysis of recovered data; and professional report writing. This position will be based out of Boulder City, Nevada where the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Headquarters is located. It is a 20-minute drive from the city of Henderson which lies on the outskirts of Las Vegas. Lake Mead National Recreation Area encompasses 1.5 million acres in southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona, in the transition of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts, including mountains, canyons, valleys, and two vast lakes. It hosts 7.5 million visitors per year. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Minimum Requirements: Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. #J-18808-Ljbffr Austin Community College
