About the Try New Things Club

The Try New Things Club is a community-first organization with a simple mission: to build community and competency by trying new things together. We believe that strong community and meaningful relationships are huge drivers of life satisfaction. We also believe that by trying new activities, we build confidence not just in a new skill, but in our ability to learn and take on whatever life throws at us.

We are looking for passionate, community-minded leaders to launch, and run new Try New Things Club chapters in their own communities.

Role Description

As a Chapter Founder, you will:

• Build a Community from Scratch: Recruit a small team of 2-4 co-organizers and find an initial ~10 interested members to kickstart your chapter.

• Foster a Welcoming Atmosphere: Your top priority is fostering community and belonging. You will create a friendly, inclusive space that people look forward to every week, where new members feel welcome and everyone feels like they are hanging out with friends.

• Champion Member-Led Learning: We avoid the "college lecture" model. Your job is to encourage engagement and agency by empowering members to teach their own skills and collectively decide what the chapter learns.

• Organize and Lead Meetings: You will be responsible for planning meetings, securing locations, and hosting regular activities. This could be anything from soccer and chess to a writing workshop or painting. Your chapter's activities will be determined by its members.

Qualifications

• You are someone who can assemble and lead a team, and enjoys bringing people together.
• You are passionate about building authentic community.
• You love a good challenge and have a genuine interest in hands-on activities.
• You can take an idea and run with it, handling planning and execution.

What We Provide (Our Support)

This is a volunteer (unpaid) position, but we are committed to setting you up for success. We don't expect you to do it all with no help. The central Try New Things Club organization provides a robust support system, including:

• Activity Funding: We provide funding for your chapter's activities and supplies. This budget grows with your chapter's size, allowing you to try more ambitious things as your community expands.

• The Founder's Playbook: You'll receive a complete, step-by-step guide on everything from founding your chapter and recruiting organizers to running engaging meetings and fostering community.

• Technology & Tools: A dedicated web page for your chapter on trynewthingsclub.com to manage your member list, post meeting details, and build your local presence.

• A Collaborative Network: You'll be connected to a network of other Chapter Organizers from cities all over. This is your space to ask questions, share ideas, and learn best practices from other leaders.

• Ongoing Support: You're not in this alone. Our team is available to provide guidance, resources, and support whenever you need it along the way.
