Furniture Repair and Installation Technician (Temp-to-Hire)

About the Role

Modern Business Interiors is seeking a dependable, skilled, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Furniture Repair and Installation Technician. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with a well-established commercial office furniture dealership. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, take pride in their work, and enjoy a mix of hands-on repair work and field installations.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site and in-house repairs on office furniture, including chairs, desks, panels, and filing systems.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and cosmetic issues with furniture components (e.g., hinges, drawer slides, mechanisms, and casters).
• Use a variety of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Assist with furniture deliveries and installations on MBI’s company truck, ensuring accuracy and care during transport and setup.
• Communicate professionally with customers and internal staff regarding service needs and completed work.
• Schedule and plan service calls efficiently—grouping jobs to optimize routes within St. Louis City/County and St. Charles areas.
• Maintain tools, vehicle, and work area in a clean and organized manner.
• Complete service reports, delivery documentation, and time records accurately.
• Support the operations team with warehouse or project tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Prior experience in furniture repair, assembly, installation, or a related field preferred.
• Working knowledge of the St. Louis and St. Charles areas for route planning.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Self-motivated and dependable with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and trustworthy.
• Ability to lift and move furniture and materials (up to 75 lbs) and work on your feet for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
