Fox TV Stations

FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX 35 Orlando has a rare opening for a dynamic, engaging, experienced journalist to anchor our weekend morning Good Day Orlando newscast.
This anchor/reporter will enterprise investigative caliber content during the week, fill in for other anchors as need, and work with news managers and producers to develop content and execute a strategy for weekend newscasts.
We’re looking for a go- getter, with a proven track record of digging, asking tough questions on behalf of our viewers, and producing engaging content for our newscasts and digital platforms.  We expect a rock star reporter who every other reporter in the market will follow.
You’ll join an anchor team includes the most experienced journalists in the market. They’re professional, polished, confident leaders in the community and the newsroom.

  • Reads news stories and reporter intros from teleprompter.
  • Interacts, both scripted an unscripted, with other members of the anchor team and invited guests.
  • Produces content and interacts on social media.
  • Remains current on local, national and international news and issues.
  • Regularly reports and writes packages, from the set and in the field.
  • Writes and edits news copy for broadcast and web.
  • Organizes material, determines emphasis, and writes story in a fair, accurate manner.
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding story through interview, observation, and research.
  • Meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines.
  • Reviews newscasts to ensure objectives are attained.
  • Contributes ideas for stories both daily and long term.
  • Acts as ambassador for the station to foster public goodwill.
  • Transmits information to supervisors for review.
  • Reports to work to assist with newscasts outside normal work schedule at times of severe weather conditions or breaking news.
  • Responsible for any and all equipment issued by FOX.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Complies with all FTS computer requirements – myfoxpay, Navigator training, password protection, computer usage, etc.
  • Complies with all FTS and Station policies – Anti-Bribery & Anti-Corruption, Insider Trading, etc.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Regularly stand; walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; and; talk or hear.  Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.       

QUALIFICATIONS:  A minimum of three years’ experience working as a reporter and/or anchor in a medium or large market preferred.

EDUCATION :   College degree in communications/journalism or related field preferred.

OTHER:     Good news judgment and knowledge of fair and accurate journalism practices. Ability to tell stories, ask good probing questions in Q&A with reporters and ad-lib effectively.  Strong writing skills and thorough knowledge of current events.  Excellent people and communication skills; must be a team player.  Working knowledge of newsroom computers.
