As a Principal Communications Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping strategic communications that align with Medtronic’s mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. In this role, you will be an expert in channel strategy, management, and deployment. You will serve as a talented collaborator who thrives on creating efficiencies to effectively develop, manage, and execute strategies for our internal and external communications channels .
You must be passionate about utilizing new technologies to enhance how we operationalize communications strategies to reach audiences in new, interesting, and different ways ! Your work will help amplify the voices of employees, drive business goals, and reinforce a sense of belonging to all. This role is also responsible for enabling measurable and data-driven strategies to advance our approach and functional expertise .
In this highly visible and influential role, you will:
Support the Surgical Communications team and collaborate with multiple cross functional groups across a variety of global geographies and functions.
Oversee responsibility for both internal and external communications channel management, planning, and execution.
Support the team’s execution of communications strategies.
Proactively seek out new, different, and enhanced technical capabilities to enhance how we deploy our communication approach.
Cont ribute towards design and content creation across multiple media formats.
Bring a measurement and data-led approach to deliver insights into actions to help advance Communications programs.
Communicate clearly through written and verbal communication .
Manage an editorial calendar to inform communications deployment across channels and audiences in thoughtful ways.
Advance the company narrative to media and other external audiences as defined, which may involve the strategic conceptualization and execution of creative (PR) campaigns.
Manage projects/ programs and applicable content deployment, guided by the Medtronic Mission and overall business strategy.
This role supports U.S. time zones and is intended to be an in-person position with key stakeholders and partners in Lafayette, CO, Boston, MA, Minneapolis, MN, or North Haven, CT. Travel required is expected to be less than 10 percent.
Must Haves:
Bachelor’s degree AND m inimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR
Advanced degree with 5 years relevant experience
Nice to Have:
Experience working in healthcare, medical technology, or regulated industries
Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior leadership
Track record of leading communications during change or transformation
Proficiency in digital communications tools (e.g., SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Yammer, intranet platforms)
Commitment to inclusive communication practices and DEI principles
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Experience working in a global and/or matrixed environment
