Unit Overview

• Unit Name: Inpatient Pediatrics – Floor 4, Boise Hospital
• Bed Count: 41 beds
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:4

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Types of Patients:
  • Respiratory (e.g. asthma, bronchiolitis)
  • Diabetic management
  • Post-surgical (trachs, g-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs)
  • Seizures
  • Suicidal ideation (SI) & mental health
  • No cardiac patients

Certifications & Experience

• Required: BLS, PALS
• Preferred: CPHON (for oncology care)
• Experience: 2 years preferred; open to first-time travelers

Clinical Details

• Drips:
  • No titration required
  • No common titratable or set-rate drips
• Charge Nurse: Yes, on each shift (typically without a patient load)
• Support Staff:
  • Day: 1 tech per 8 patients
  • Night: 1 tech per 20 patients
• RT/Respiratory Equipment:
  • Home vents used occasionally
  • Travelers NOT required to have trach/vent experience
• Tele Monitoring:
  • Not on unit
  • If ordered, it is remote
  • RN does NOT need tele experience
• Pediatrician Coverage:
  • In-house during day
  • On-call from home at night

Scheduling

• Shifts: 7a–7p or 7p–7a
• Scheduling Flexibility: Work with scheduler; block scheduling up to 5 shifts allowed if it meets unit needs
• Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
• Holiday Requirement: At least 1 holiday during contract (likely)
• Call/Standby: None, unless NICU-trained
• Floating: None
• Orientation: 2 x 12-hour unit-specific shifts
• Scrubs: Any color, no specific dress code

Other Notes

• Radius Rule: Must live 50+ miles away to be eligible as a traveler
