Job Purpose

The Principal Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the Sr. Principal Engineer with product safety and regulatory matters. This includes overseeing safety-related investigations for Automotive and Motorcycle products, ensuring Honda’s compliance, and conducting data analysis to enhance market quality.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist in responding to official product safety investigations, ensuring clarity in engineering documents and timely submissions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote regulatory positioning and ensure Market Quality testing aligns with agency expectations.
  • Support the Sr. Principal Engineer in addressing agency meeting agenda items and special investigation requests.
  • Conduct data analysis on Market Quality data to identify trends and escalate concerns as necessary.
  • Stay updated on FMVSS and assist with SED consultation and interpretation.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 7 years of product technical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in product safety or regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to simplify complex safety issues and technologies.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in quality analysis and defect/root cause investigation.
  • Quickly develop a knowledge base for technical and regulatory discussions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with leadership potential.

Working Conditions

  • General office environment.
  • Light physical demands, including testing and driving support.
  • Approximately 5-10% travel required.
  • Limited overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
