Position Summary

The Special Education Teacher provides high-quality, individualized education services in full alignment with federal, state, and local guidelines. The core mission of this role is to ensure students receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment possible. Key functions include expert case management, the development and implementation of comprehensive Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supervision of assigned paraeducators, and active participation in collaborative problem-solving teams within a supportive educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • IEP Management and Implementation: Develop, implement, oversee, and monitor data for IEPs meticulously tailored to meet individual student needs.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain all necessary written materials, including comprehensive progress reports, IEP documents, meeting notices, prior written notices, and other essential documentation.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Communicate professionally and clearly, both in written and oral formats, with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely and effective services.
  • Compliance and Billing: Maintain comprehensive documentation of services rendered per district and regulatory policies and fulfill all associated billing requirements accurately.
  • Instructional Best Practices: Apply current research and evidence-based best practices to inform instructional strategies and educational decision-making.
  • Supervision: Provide supervision, direction, and mentorship to assigned paraeducators, new teachers, or other support staff.
  • Meeting Facilitation: Facilitate IEP meetings and participate actively in various problem-solving teams.
  • General Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by district or school administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure: Holds or is immediately eligible for a Missouri teaching license with the appropriate Special Education endorsement. Information on licensure requirements can be found on the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website.
  • Content Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in subject content, specialized curriculum, and individualized teaching methodologies.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in utilizing multimedia and assistive technology to support and engage diverse learners effectively.
  • Skills: Strong collaboration, organizational, and time-management skills; excellent oral and written communication abilities.
